Most of the time Google PR is just 'bragging rights', since many people won't use it to sell advertisements or get a better deal to sell a site. Still most admins care about their PR and try to increase it. Is it important to you or you just take it as it is and work on other things?

I use PR as a rough estimate of how much google likes my sites. It increases automatically as your site grows so there's not really much of a point to focus on it directly. Work on SEO, link building, and promotion.... and pagerank will follow.

I do. It's not the most important thing in the world, but it does still make a difference with a lot of advertisers. I know I get a lot more requests for ads when my sites are PR 3/4 than I do when they're only 2.

I am a google PR nerd - I'm always looking to see what sites are. My sites, my competition, sites i'm looking to purchase or sell, etc..

At google's end, it's constantly changing. They only update the public numbers that everyone sees roughly every 3 months though. The last one was the beginning of May, so the next one is expected to be the beginning of April. The actual dates can vary up to a month in either direction though, but they tend to average every 3 months.

When I first started I was OBSESSED with getting a high PR. Now I realize that PR isn't the end-all-be-all of my forum. As long as you make sure new content is always being added, make strong anchor links and backlinks, and have great content your traffic will grow as will your PR. For example try a google search for something your interested in, click on the first few links that pop up and check their PR. You'll be surprised to find that there will be sites with a PR 1 that are above 2s or 3s. Don't work for Google. Make Google work for you!

From what I understand Google PR is based solely on backlinks. There is a forum that is about as old as mine, has 1/4 the members 10% of the traffic, and 10% of the activity, but it is a PR4 and mine is PR1.
So that indicated to me that they have bought alot of links, but I bet this has hurt them in SERPS.

So PR does not really mean anything to me.

Google Pagerank is just a number but it's important if you want to sell your site. I have read somewhere that even Google doesn't consider Pagerank while ranking sites. So focus on creating quality sites and promote it well but don't get impatient if the pagerank doesn't improve.

I wouldn't say it is very important but I do feel it plays and important role in me getting my forum off the ground and gaining traffic. I usually use PR as a way of motivation to keep me going with working on SEO and backlinking, I am currently at PR 1 with my site and wanting to get to PR 2 or higher only pushes me more to do what is needed to get there :)

To me PR is just a number. Nice number to look at but still just a number. I don't see the connection between PR and the worth or value of a site. There are many more factors which are more important.

Maybe so, Victor, but if you're relying on advertising on your site as part of your income, then that number -is- important for the value of your site. The higher the number, the more likely you'll get advertising or be able to charger higher prices.

Thank you for reminding me. I have totally missed this point. So now I must pay more attention to the PR of my site. So what is the top PR that I should be aiming for?

Eh, between 3 and 5 is what keeps most individuals happy. 2 is still low and 6 is almost unreachable for most.

I check the pagerank of my sites and most other sites I visit. As soon as there is a Google PR update I rush to all my sites to see if there is a change. I think I do it mostly for my own self-satisfaction. It sometimes makes me work a little bit harder on the sites that did not have a PR change. Anything that makes me work harder is a good thing!

3 is already good enough to keep most people happy? Wow, then I am going to make most people happy because I have been at PR3 for quite some time now. Never mind about the 6 since you said it's almost unreachable. What can we expect to happen when we get to PR5? I mean other than letting off the fireworks and breaking out the champagne.

Absolutely nothing. It's just a number. So you might expect to be able to ask for higher advertising prices or get offered higher amounts. You may get more spam, too, because people seek out the higher rankings. Unfortunately, no fireworks or champagne. ;)

Aww, no fireworks and no champagne? What a letdown. I mean, after hearing how people would work to bring up their Pagerank, I would have thought that it might be something special. Oh, well, back to writing readable content.

I haven't really paid attention to it in years because all of the tools people use to return page rank all seem to return different results. One tool might tell ma site is PR 0 and another one might tell me it's a PR of 5. I never know which one is accurate, so I just ignore it all together.
